Shepard Fairey is one of the primary arists who will referenced throughout this study between tattoos, printmaking and social discussion. He has become a contemporary icon, delivering current events and icons to the public in a way that is decorative but satirical all the same. He designed the propaganda "Hope" print before Pres. Obama was elected into office, influencing (not totally responsible for the outcome) american citizens to view our next potenctial President in an idealized and heroic sense. His satire is whimsical and still serious. Check out his work and see what's going on.

I am Oz

Oz has been an awesome subject not only to because he's the first participant in this tattoing for the people project but also, we've developed a friendship throughout this entire experience. This work for Oz is still in progress and the following post will be going further in depth why I approached Oz with my idea of creating art for the individual. To begin, you can see a progression starting at the bottom going to the top. This shows the four sessions we've managed to accomplish thus far and plan on future sessions to finish his work.

Mastering Basic Techniques

Learning to tattoo has been it's own feat and mastering the art form is a life long process. However, combining the various elements I've already learned from other mediums such as welding, watercolor, drawing and printmaking have made it easier for me to accomplish basic techniques with tattooing both in utility and experimentation through reasoning.

I completed this tattoo for Cori Garrod over the Summer down in Oklahoma City, OK after flying down and being hosted for a tattoo party. Cori's stars were a continuation onto her left foot (stars on her right foot were touched up but not originally done by myself) in addition with the initials CSJM. These are the initials of her two best friends and myself as well. Her symbolism is simple and more decorative than representational. However, the tattoo and touch-up turned out amazing and was a pleasure to finish.
These pieces featured, are representative of successfully mastering basic techniques involving consistent outlining and fill-in.
